MEMBERSHIP AND BENEFIT

Eligibility for Membership

Adults of Ethiopian descent, Ethiopian Canadians, individuals with
Ethiopian heritage or ties, and their spouses living in Greater Vancouver
are welcome to join the Ethiopian Idir in Greater Vancouver (Idir).
Prospective members must accept the EISGV Bylaw (available in English
and Amharic), complete the membership registration form and pay
the appropriate registration fee.

Registration Fee:

  • Onetime fee: $1500 CAD

Monthly Fee: $25 CAD

Benefits (when an Idir member’s family is getting married):

  • A lump sum payment of $2,000

Benefits (when an Idir member passes away):

  • A lump sum payment of $10,000
  • Guidance and support for funeral and burial arrangements
  • Visitation and emotional support during the mourning period and More.

  • Beneficiary Designation for Singles: Download and print the beneficiary designation form, fill in the name(s) of your chosen beneficiary or beneficiaries, and submit the completed form to the current Idir officials.

Idir

Ethiopian Idir (also spelled Eder) is a deeply rooted traditional social institution that plays a vital role in community life, especially in times of crisis. It’s a beautiful example of grassroots mutual aid and solidarity.
